Description

Main Features:

KD-WRP-Fp-WCB Outdoor Expanding Steel Structure Fireproof Coating is a high-performance fireproof coating developed by our factory. It offers a thin coating with strong adhesion, excellent fire resistance, and exceptional decorative effects. It is widely used for the fire protection of outdoor steel structures.

Substrate Treatment and Application Methods:

(1) Substrate Treatment:

  1. Surface treatment of steel structures is essential to ensure the durability of the fireproof coating. Depending on the substrate, the surface treatment for steel structures should follow these guidelines:(1) New Common Steel Structures:The surface of steel structures should be sandblasted for rust removal, followed by the application of compatible anti-rust and anti-corrosion coatings. It is recommended to use an epoxy-rich zinc primer and epoxy cloud iron intermediate coat system.(2) Galvanized Steel Structures:To ensure good adhesion with the fireproof coating, an epoxy coating transition layer must be applied before construction.

    (3) Old Steel Structures or Old Primer Surfaces:

    1. If the primer is undamaged and the surface is clean, check the compatibility between the fireproof coating and the primer. If there is no primer or the primer is severely damaged, rust removal and the application of a new anti-corrosion coating are necessary before proceeding with construction.
  2. Before construction, thoroughly inspect the steel components for the presence of rust paint, dust, or oil stains. Check for cracks and incomplete welds on steel beams and columns. Construction can only proceed when these checks reveal no issues.
  3. Steel components that have not been treated for rust must undergo rust removal (usually performed by the user).

(2) Application of Fireproof Coating:

  1. Open the packaging on-site and use mechanical stirring until uniform consistency is achieved. If the material is too thick, a small amount of compatible thinner can be added to achieve the desired consistency, but this should not exceed 5% of the paint volume.
  2. This coating can be applied through brushing, rolling, or spraying. Alternate between horizontal and vertical strokes between each coat, ensuring an even and smooth application.
  3. Requirements for Temperature and Humidity During Application:The fireproof coating should be applied at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C, with a relative humidity of ≤80%. High humidity or low temperatures can prolong drying times and reduce film adhesion and other performance properties.
  4. The thickness of the first coat should not exceed 0.2mm.
  5. Apply subsequent coats after the first coat has partially dried, until the specified thickness is achieved. Each coat’s dry film thickness should not exceed 0.3mm (wet film 0.2-0.4mm).
  6. Under normal conditions, the interval between coats should be at least 24 hours. The interval can be adjusted if temperatures are too high or too low. If the temperature is above 20°C, and there is airflow exceeding 2m/s, two coats can typically be applied in a day.
  7. During the application of this product, it is recommended to use non-alkali fiberglass fabric. When the dry film thickness reaches approximately 1.2-1.5mm, overlap the non-alkali fiberglass fabric by 5-10cm, press it firmly with a spatula along one direction, paying special attention to pressing firmly at corners and connections. Ensure comprehensive compression and no hollow areas before proceeding with the next coat.
  8. High humidity, low gas flow, or low steel temperatures can result in condensation on steel surfaces, leading to reduced coating adhesion, and even cracking, peeling, or flaking.

(3) Top Coat Application:

To improve the weather resistance and water resistance of the coating system, a topcoat must be applied after the fireproof coating. The topcoat can be selected as acrylic polyurethane topcoat, and the compatibility performance between the topcoat and the fireproof coating must be tested before construction.

  1. Apply the compatible topcoat when the fireproof coating has essentially dried.
  2. Open the topcoat packaging on-site and use mechanical stirring until uniform consistency is achieved. If the material is too thick, a small amount of compatible thinner can be added to achieve the desired consistency, but this should not exceed 10% of the paint volume.
  3. This topcoat can be applied through spraying, brushing, rolling, etc.
  4. Apply two coats of the topcoat to completely seal the fireproof coating.
  5. Prior to applying the topcoat, the fireproof coating must not be exposed to prolonged rainwater.

Notes:

  1. To enhance the fire stability of key areas of steel structures during a fire, it is recommended to wrap high-strength fiberglass fabric during the construction process.
  2. To increase the overall durability of the fireproof coating system and protect it from external environmental corrosion, it is required to apply two coats of a high-quality anti-corrosion topcoat on the surface of KD-WRP-Fp-WCB fireproof coating.
  3. The temperature during transportation and storage of this coating must not drop below 5°C.
  4. This coating must not be mixed with other components or used in conjunction with other coatings.
